VIP - Vold, institusjoner og fred

Om forskningsgruppen

ISS har et internasjonalt anerkjent fagmiljø innen borgerkrig og politisk ustabilitet. Sentrale tema for gruppa er politiske institusjoner, klima og miljø, opprørsgrupper, ikke-voldelig motstand og sosiale bevegelser, terrorisme, og politisk opinion i samfunn som har opplevd konflikt. Denne forskningen er direkte relevant for FNs bærekraftsmål om fred og rettferdighet.

Medlemmene i VIP møtes til seminar ca. annenhver uke. Formålet med seminarene er at ansatte, masterstudenter og eksterne gjester presenterer og diskuterer pågående forskning. Forskningsgruppa legger stor vekt på rekruttering og har de senere årene tilsatt og uteksaminert flere ph.d.-stipendiater innenfor konfliktforskning. Masteremnet POL3502 Årsaker til krig er også en viktig kanal for rekruttering og faglig formidling.

Gruppa har gjennom mange år hatt et tett samarbeid med Institutt for fredsforskning (PRIO), og har røtter tilbake til PRIOs senter for fremragende forskning, Center for the Study of Civil War (2003-13). Som en del av samarbeidet er Halvard Buhaug, forskningsprofessor ved PRIO, tilsatt som Professor II ved ISS. Samarbeidet med PRIO har også omfattet en nasjonal forskerskole i freds- og konfliktstudier.

Forskere i gruppa leder og er en del av flere større eksternfinansierte prosjekter.
