Om

Forskningen min ligger i skjæringspunktet mellom geoteknikk, klimatilpasning og digital teknologi. I en tid der klimaendringene fører til hyppigere og mer intenst ekstremvær, fokuserer arbeidet mitt på å gjøre samfunn og kritisk infrastruktur mer robuste mot naturfare – spesielt vanntriggered geofarer som skred.

Ved å bygge bro mellom tradisjonelle geofag og avansert numerisk modellering, har forskningen min som mål å transformere hvordan vi forutsier, overvåker og risikovurderer geotekniske utfordringer.

Sentrale forskningsområder

  • Klimarobusthet og geofarer: Jeg utvikler prediktive rammeverk for å kvantifisere hvordan endrede nedbørsmønstre påvirker skråningsstabilitet og skredfare. Dette inkluderer blant annet avansert 3D-modellering (store deformasjoner) av katastrofale hendelser – som kvikkleireskredet i Gjerdrum i 2020 – for bedre å forstå mekanismene bak retrogressive skredforløp.

  • Fysikkinformert maskinlæring: Et hovedfokus i mitt nåværende arbeid er integrasjonen av datavitenskap og fysiske lover. Jeg utforsker bruken av fysikkinformerte nevrale nettverk (PINNs) for å løse inverse problemer knyttet til grunnvannsstrømning, samt dyplæring (som LSTM-nettverk) for å modellere interaksjoner mellom jord og vann.

  • Pålitelighet og risikobasert optimalisering: Med utgangspunkt i mitt tidligere arbeid med den strukturelle påliteligheten til monopelfundamenter for havvindmøller, spesialiserer jeg meg på probabilistisk geoteknisk prosjektering. Jeg utvikler avanserte pålitelighetsmetoder (som Hyperspheric Integral Reliability Method) for å håndtere usikkerhet i grunnforhold for kritisk infrastruktur.

  • Digitalisering og tidligvarsling: Mine nyere prosjekter tar i bruk fremvoksende teknologier – inkludert SAR-satellittdata (syntetisk apertur-radar) og VR-miljøer (Virtual Reality) – for å bygge proaktive systemer for tidligvarsling og engasjerende simuleringsverktøy for beredskapstrening.

Forskningsavtrykk og samarbeid

Forskningen min er drevet av en kombinasjon av akademisk tyngde og praktisk industriell anvendelse, og utføres ofte i tett samarbeid med ledende forskningsinstitutter som SINTEF og initiativer som Gemini-senteret CERCIS. Ved å kombinere feltdata, fysiske prinsipper og moderne AI, jobber forskningsgruppen min med å levere konkrete, datadrevne løsninger for kommuner, rådgivende ingeniørselskaper og infrastruktureiere som står overfor klimautfordringene.

Hyperspheric Integral Reliability Method for efficient reliability analysis of geotechnical ultimate limit states

HINT method for reliability analysis of geotechnical ultimate limit states is built on the shear strength reduction mechanism. HINT utilizes the factor of safety as a measure of distance to the failure limit to improve reliability analyses.

Application of physics-informed neural networks to inverse problems in unsaturated groundwater flow

This paper investigates the application of PINNs to inverse problems in unsaturated groundwater flow. The novelty of the paper originates from the development of PINN formulations for the Richards equation that requires a single neural network.
