Terje Andreas Eikemo
Bakgrunn og aktiviteter
Eikemo leder forskningssenteret CHAIN - Centre for Global Health Inequalities Research som forsker på helseulikheter i verden, grunnene til at de oppstår – og ikke minst – hvordan man best kan bedre helsen for alle sosiale grupper ved hjelp av skreddersydde intervensjoner. CHAIN, som er finansiert gjennom Forskningsrådets miljøstøtteordning, er også navet i et globalt sosioøkonomisk nettverk som evaluerer helsebetydningen av utdannelse og andre sosiale determinanter i samarbeid med Global Burden of Disease. CHAIN er også med på å kartlegge alle verdens skoler i samarbeid med UNICEFs hovedkontor, vi evaluerer helsesystemer i Europa og Sør-Amerika i lys av kreftødelighet i samarbeid med IARC, vi evaluerer betydningen av luftforurensning under svangerskap på barnehelse i samarbeid med Folkehelseinstituttet, og vi identifiserer tiltak for å redusere barnedødelighet i samarbeid med UNICEF Innocenti.
Eikemo forsker på sosial ulikhet i mental helse, kroniske sykdommer, og dødelighet. Når det gjelder hvilke mekanismer som gir lange liv i god helse, har forskningen hatt et bredt fokus: fra velferdspolitikk og helsesystemer på overordnet nivå, til sosiale, materielle, livstils-relaterte (som røyking, alkoholforbruk, fysisk aktivitet og kosthold), arbeidsmiljø, arbeidsledighet, og bruk av helsetjenester på individuelt nivå.
I 2009 ble han tildelt prisen for yngre forskere innen humaniora fra det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab, og i 2010 mottok han SINTEFs pris for fremragende forskning. I 2014 ble Eikemo valgt ut som én av 17 forskere i NTNUs Stjerneprogram.
Eikemo har vært sjefsredaktør for Scandinavian Journal of Public Health siden 2016.
