Bakgrunn og aktiviteter

Nina Haarsaker is working at the Department of Architecture and Technology Studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, NTNU as assistance professor. She graduated from NTNU in 2001, after both philosophy studies and several years abroad studying architecture at UP Madrid, TU Delft and LTH Lund. She has professional experience from three years at local office Arkiplan in Trondheim working on school buildings and suburban large-scale building projects, and several years as self-employed,TiPi, with resent interesting housing project together with partner: .

Nina started working at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts in 2001, teaching at several different basic and master courses, and has been course coordinator for the first year at the Master program in Architecture since 2013.

Key experience and field of interest:

-      Aesthetic discourse;  Interpretation of senses and meaning of form

-      Creative processes; Methods and design tools through the consept of "Making is thinking"

-      Learning-processes and didactics for both professionals and beginners of form studies.

DIDACTICAL FOCUS/ FORMGROUP at department of Architecture and Technology:

She is part of the departments FORMGROUP, and has didactical focus and special competence on the concept "learning by doing"- and social relations in a wide range. She advocates open reflection and "making is thinking", being everything from concrete FORM association exercises to working with techtonic/materials, form analyses, aesthetical attitudes and bodily habits.

Keywords: theoretical experience-theories or notions like:  threshold concepts/ lateral thinking/ synectics/ tacit knowledge and learning by reflecting on doing/ bricolage/ collages/ esthetical thinking/ soma-esthetic and body consciousness/ phenomenology, openness and deep learning processes/ landscape intuition, together with integral approach as architectonical tools.

In february 2018 Nina was for the third time invited to the university of Antwerpen together with collegaue Gro Rødne to participate as teachers on the International Design Workshop-week. See the short Youtube- film from their work there, made by one of, as she says: "the super and dedicated students we met in this workshop", link under 2017/WORKSHOP.

NTNU WOOD: Nina has eight years of experience in full scale building with first year students, building with wood as material. She is recently updated on techniques for surfaces in charred wood, and clay plaster, through own artistic and practical research.

Continuously discussing where we, architecture and art meet and influence each other –the making and the meaning of FORM- with the next generation of architects.

Working in team with interesting and open collegaues at NTNU, finding frames for the next semester research, investigating together with students. Planning both a new master-course in “Making is thinking” and next “Making is thinking / experts in team” – course, after very good evaluation and feedback for the second time this spring.

BLOG 2017 Norwegian blog, the last housing project -, on the topics of use local materials, local adaptation on place and hybrid energy-solution. Short handbook on "HOW to: work with clay plaster" and "HOW to: charring facade panel as surface treatment / Charred wood".

ICSA International Conference 2016 on Tectonics, with the paper “An Aesthetic Approach to Full scale Building in Teaching Architecture” with regional wood materials. The work investigates full-scale building as an educational tool by comparing learning outcome, discussing two different pedagogical attitudes in full scale building with students in light of theories of soma-esthetics and aesthetical theory.

Keywords: action research through fullscale educational masterplans/ learning by doing/ process-thinking / reflecting on complexity through aesthetical thinking.

IDEAPROJECT 2015: "The Re-use house; house for elementary school and football club at Utleira" - the use of local materials; clay as a base.
