Pål Kvello
Om
Pål Kvello ble utdannet allmennlærer ved Høgskolen i Nord-Trøndelag, og fortsatte med en master og doktorgrad i biologi ved Dr. Hanna Mustaparta’s laboratorium, institutt for biologi, NTNU. Her studerte han hvordan nervesystemet hos insekter detekterer og prosesserer informasjon om smakskvaliteter. Dette arbeidet fortsatte med en post-doktor stilling i Dr. Kristin Scott’s laboratorium ved University of California, Berkeley, hvor Pål studerte hvordan smaksnevroner i sentralnervesystemet påvirker spiseatferd hos bananfluer. Av mangel på metoder for å identifisere funksjonelle forbindelser mellom nevronene hos bananfluer, startet Pål en post-doktor periode i Dr. Menno Witter’s laboratorium ved Kavli instituttet for nevrovitenskap for å lære whole-cell multipatch elektrofysiologi. Med denne metoden undersøkte han hvordan nevroner i ulike lag av hjernebarken hos rotter og mus er koblet sammen i nevrale nettverk. Ved bruk av en transgen rottemodell for Alzheimers sykdom undersøkte han også hvordan denne sykdommen kan påvirke funksjonen hos nevroner i den entorhinale delen av hjernebarken. Pål Kvello har nå sin egen forskningsgruppe ved Institutt for lærerutdanning https://www.ntnu.no/web/ilu/nevrodidaktikk hvor målet er å øke elevers kunnskap om nervesystemet, samt bidra til å øke anvendelsen av denne kunnskapen i andre fagfelt.
