Research Areas

My main research areas are in combustion and fluid mechanics. Currently, our group is focused on understanding the combustion physics and dynamics of turbulent flames. Our current projects focus on zero carbon fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia for next generation gas turbines for both aeroengines and power generation. In addition, our group also conducts experimental research into fundamentals of turbulent flows which are key building blocks, not only in combustion, but a wide variety of phenomena found in nature as well as engineering science.

Current Projects

HYROPE (2024 - 2030):  I am the coordinating PI of an ERC synergy grant awarded to understand the effect of pressure on the combustion physics of hydrogen and ammonia flames. My co-PIs are: Professor Nicolas Noiray at ETH Zurich, Professor Andreas Dreizler at TU Darmstadt, and Dr Laurent Selle at CNRS.

InsigH2T (2025 - 2028):  I am coordinator of an EU RIA grant funded by Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking to understand the effect of pressure on the turbulent burning rate, thermoacoustic response, and emission performance of premixed hydrogen flames.

BigH2 Phase IV (2023 - 2027):  Developing a fuel-flexible, low-carbon industrial gas turbine. Funding source: CLIMIT Demo Programme, Gassnova. I am a partner in the project let by the PI, Andrea Gruber at Sintef Energy.

CIFRE Project (2023 – 2027) with Safran Helicopter Engines investigating azimuthal swirl concepts for different sustainable fuels. Co-PI: Prof. Thierry Schuller at IMFT Toulouse.

 

Completed Projects

ANNULIGhT (2017 - 2021):  An MSCA ITN funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. I was the coordinating PI with a consortium including CERFACS, École Central Paris, ETH Zurich, University of Cambridge, TU Berlin, TU Munich, Safran Helicopters, Safran SA, Ansaldo Energia, Rolls Royce UK, Siemens.
