This course will provide knowledge and skills in usability and human factors. It will cover the following topics:
- Core factors in user-friendly design
- Understanding user requirements
- Cognitive dimensions of interaction
- Design methods and processes
- Universal design of ICT
- Digital accessibility and inclusive design
- Methods for evaluating usability
- Advanced measurements for usability testing
Læringsutbytte
The student, upon completion of this course, will have:
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of the concepts of usability and user experience and their critical importance, as well as cognitive issues related to user behavior, and have specialized knowledge of a limited topic within usability
- Advanced knowledge of understanding user requirements
- Advanced knowledge of universal design of ICT, accessible and inclusive design, and evaluation
- Ability to recognize, analyze, compare, and apply various heuristics and methods for usability
- In-depth knowledge of advanced metrics for usability testing
Skills
- Conduct effective user research, including various data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and surveys
- Apply design methodology and user-centered methodology to create prototypes
- Plan and conduct usability evaluations, recruit participants, and analyze test results
- Interpret and understand usability quality measurements such as error rates and user satisfaction
- Discuss the requirements for user interface design in digital media with regard to human factors and end-user needs
General competence
- Be able to develop an understanding of and reflect on theory, definitions and concepts within the field of usability and human factors, and contribute to the improvement of existing designs

Mandatory assignments: Two individual mandatory assignments (passed/failed) distributed throughout the semester.
Course evaluation: Group project work (100%)
Retake of exam
- If you do not pass, you can submit a new or revised exam in the next semester.
- In the event of voluntary repetition to improve the grade, the entire course must be retaken.
