Vera Skalicka
Om
I am associate professor at the Department of Psychology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Since 2012, I have been member of the Human Development Research Group, organized around the Trondheim Early Secure Study (TESS), which is a longitudinal study following biennially a cohort of children from Trondheim since 2007.
I did my PhD in Sociology in 2014 at NTNU. In my dissertation I examined socioeconomic inequalities in mortality, based on the Nord-Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT). I did one-year research stay at the Department of Public Health at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam.
My research interests are social inequalities in physical and mental health, and health behavior, child and youth development and quantitative methods. I have studied the effects of child care on children’s socioemotional development and now I focus on social factors influencing children’s and youth psychosocial development, mental health and health behavior.
I lead the Child & Adolescent Research Group (CARG), which focuses on child and youth psychosocial development, mental health, and social relations.
I am the Norwegian coordinater of the GUIDEPREP project, which facilitatets implementation of GUIDE, (Growing Up in Digital Europe), Europe's first comparative birth cohort study of children's and youth wellbeing.
I serve as co-PI of the UNIFAMN (UNIting FAMilies across Nordic countries for resilience) project, which aims to enhance resilience, future crisis preparedness, and well-being of families across Nordic countries.
In 2023, I received funding from NTNU Health to investigate Facilitators and barriers for mental health service use in adolescence, using the TESS Study.
I have been involved in the KUMBA project, which develops quality assesments systems to monitor and improve process-quality in Norwegian Early Childhoodd Education and Care institutions.
I also contribute to the DROPOUT project, that aims to reveal predictors of high-school dropout.
