‘Aid’ to higher education in a multiplex world: Exploring the diversity of donor discourses and rationales

The international development landscape is more ‘multiplex’ today than was the case after WWII. This article considers how this changing landscape has affected aid to higher education in lower-income contexts in relation to the top 15 funders.

Unveiling university-society engagement – university origin stories from Denmark

We draw from Danish university origin stories to unveil the meso societal context in which universities operate. A historically-informed understanding of university-society engagement offers insight into the significance of the university to society

How do deans of humanities understand and enact societal engagement within their broader experiences of leading? A Danish case study

How do deans of faculties of humanities in Denmark understand/enact university-societal engagement while negotiating multiple responsibilities? Responsibilities & personal values scaffolded how they enacted commitment to societal engagement.

CGHE Webinar: Challenging the “single story” in a multiplex world: nuancing conceptualisations of aid and partnership in the higher education sector

This webinar will nuance the current donor narrative by presenting the findings of a qualitative study, focused on the top fifteen funders of higher education in low- and middle-income countries between 2011 and 2020 (based on available OECD data).

Economic-developmental value capture of IOs in higher ed policy

Examines the role of the World Bank and UNESCO as influential international organisations in global governance of higher education, by analysing 25 years of policy documents, showing how IOs wield power by framing the purpose & function of universities
