Jan Ketil Simonsen
Om
Jeg er professor i antropologi ved Institutt for Geografi og Sosialantropologi. Jeg har hovedfag (Cand. Polit.) og doktorgrad (Dr. Polit.) i sosialantropologi fra Universitetet i Oslo. Jeg har utført langvarig feltarbeid i Zambia, hvor jeg er tilknyttet Institute of Economic and Social Research, University of Zambia. Mine arbeider fra Zambia omhandler mer overordnet sosial og kulturell endring blant fattige migranter i byene. Mer spesifikt fokuserer jeg på livsyklusritualer, slektskap, sosiale nettverk og gjensidig hjelp blant mambwetalende migranter i hovedstaden Lusaka. Jeg har også gjort anvendt forskning og prosjektevalueringer i Zambia og Botswana, med fokus på bydelsutvikling, utdanningssektoren og helsesektoren. For tiden gjør jeg også feltarbeid i Spania på industrialisering av iberisk skinkeproduksjon og bærekraftige skogsbeitesystemer. Jeg har også en langvarig interesse i visuell antropologi og etnografisk film.
For tiden underviser jeg hovedsakelig i emner om etnografisk metode og migrasjonsproblematikk, men holder også kurs i akademisk skriving på alle nivåer. Jeg er tidligere leder for instituttet og har vært redaktør for Norsk Antropologisk Tidsskrift.
