Andrew Weir
Om
Jeg er førsteamanuensis i engelsk språk ved Institutt for språk og litteratur. Jeg tok bachelorgrad i lingvistikk fra University of Edinburgh i 2008, mastergrad i syntaks fra University College London i 2009, og doktorgrad i lingvistikk fra University of Massachusetts Amherst i 2014. Før jeg kom til NTNU i 2015, var jeg forsker på seksjonen for engelsk ved Universiteit Gent i Belgia.
Jeg har hatt emneansvar for flere ulike kurs her på NTNU, inkludert Engelsk språkvitenskap (ENG1101), Global engelsk (ENG1001), Teoretiske tilnærminger til engelsk språk (ENG2155), Semantikk og pragmatikk (SPRÅK3200), Språkvitenskapelige teorier (SPRÅK3002) og Spesialiseringsemne i engelsk språk (ENG3110). Jeg veileder også gjerne oppgaver/avhandlinger (på bachelor-, master-, eller PhD-nivå) innafor teoretisk lingvistikk, særlig syntaks og semantikk, eller (formelle/grammatiske aspekt ved) varianter av engelsk.
Forskningsinteresser
Jeg fokuserer på generativ, teoretisk lingvistikk. Jeg er særlig interessert i grensesnitt (interfaces) mellom 'kjernemodulene' syntaks, semantikk, og fonologi/prosodi. Mitt arbeid på dette området fokuserer særlig på ellipse, og da særlig setningsellipse (clausal ellipsis). Jeg har også stor interesse for (mikro)variasjon og komparativ syntaks, særlig syntaktiske og semantiske trekk ved dialekter av engelsk som skotskengelsk, og registervariasjon. Jeg er medlem av forskergruppa AcqVA (Acquisition, Variation, and Attrition).
