Faglig innhold

The course is based on the jazzlinja aural training as practiced at the bachelor studies.The course offers a foundation in the "Jazzlinja" basic jazz training method, through a musical and performing approach, where imitation technique, improvisation and rhythm are essential factors. The course seeks to reflect music’s many expressions and contribute to mental and embodied musicality development.

Knowledge

The candidate:

• has knowledge of musical intuition and understanding of the importance of imitation methodology.

• has knowledge of the principles, methods and strategies used in aural training at Jazzlinja.

Skills

The candidate:

• Is able to learn music by listening.
• Has musical intuition and understanding based on experience in listening and imitation.
• Can use the Jazzlinja method as a tool individually and with others

Requires admission to Master' Degree Programme in Music Performance

The course is only open for students that are not familiar with the main methods at "Jazzlinja" /have a bachelor in jazz from other institutions. The course is based on group activities. A group (3 students or more), will be thought in English. With fewer than 3 students teaching will take place in established groups in the Norwegian thought bachelor's programme in jazz. Teaching is practical, so language will not be a limitation regardless of the number of students taking this course.There will be admittance limitations according to group size.
