This free workshop is open for all NTNU staff, employees and students. The aim is to provide attendees with a deeper awareness and understanding of anti-Black racism, a safe forum for discussing it, and the introdution of tools for combating it. This project is supported by NTNU’s Rector’s Funds for Equality and Diversity and arranged by the Department of the Interdisiplinary Studies of Culture via the Senter for kjønnsforskning, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning.

The Keynote lecture “Anti-Black Racism in the Academy” by Sindre Bangstad is open to the general public at 11:00 in Room D6.
ABSTRACT:
The tragic case of Prof Jason Arday of Cambridge University in the UK, who under an intense media storm relating to plagiarism allegations took his own life, brought the realities of anti-black racism in institutional spaces into sharp relief. We are in Western and European societies faced with a resurgence of racist ideas about white supremacy and innate racial differences, backed by powerful and well-funded far- right and racist political formations and Silicon Valley tech-fascist actors. In this lecture, I revisit some of the classics of the literature on anti-black racism, from WEB Du Bois, Aime Cesaire, Frantz Fanon and onto Kimberle Crenshaw, Sara Ahmed and Achille Mbembe, and ask what we can do in the face of this, individually and collectively.
