Eftychia Kalaitzidou

Eftychia Kalaitzidou er forsker ved NTNU, Institutt for moderne samfunnshistorie. Hun har en doktorgrad i historie fra NTNU, hvor hun forsvarte sin avhandling The Missing Girls of Greece: Discriminatory Practices Against Girls in Greece from the Late 19th to Early 20th Century. Avhandlingen undersøkte kjønnsdiskriminerende praksiser, inkludert selektiv omsorgssvikt og spedbarnsdrap, og analyserte hvordan økonomiske, sosiale og kulturelle faktorer påvirket kjønnsbalansen i historiske demografiske data. Eftychias forskning fokuserer på sosial- og kjønns historie, historisk demografi og barndomshistorie, med et særlig fokus på Europa. Hun designer prosjektet Abandoned Children of Europe: Unravelling Culture, Gender, and Social Policies of Child Abandonment in Norway, Greece, and Beyond (ca. 1850–1920), som undersøker barneforlatelse i historiske kontekster, med vekt på hvordan kjønn, sosialpolitikk og kulturelle normer formet praksisen i ulike europeiske land. Hun har bred undervisningserfaring fra NTNU, hvor hun har undervist i moderne historie, historisk teori og metode, samt emner knyttet til europeisk politikk, samfunn, krig og kultur.
Eftychia har et sterkt engasjement for å forstå hvordan sosiale, økonomiske og kulturelle faktorer har formet kjønnsrelaterte praksiser og ulikheter, og hennes forskning bidrar til å belyse disse temaene i ulike historiske og kulturelle kontekster.
