Eftychia Kalaitzidou er historiker ved NTNU, Institutt for historiske fag, og arbeider innenfor sosialhistorie, kjønnshistorie, historisk demografi og barndomshistorie. Hun har doktorgrad i historie fra NTNU. Avhandlingen hennes, The Missing Girls of Greece: Discriminatory Practices Against Girls in Greece from the Late 19th to Early 20th Century, undersøkte kjønnsdiskriminerende praksiser mot jenter, inkludert selektiv omsorgssvikt og spedbarnsdrap, og analyserte hvordan økonomiske, sosiale og kulturelle faktorer påvirket historiske kjønnsbalanser. Forskningen hennes undersøker hvordan kjønn, familiestrukturer, sosialpolitikk og kulturelle normer formet livsvilkårene og overlevelsesmulighetene til kvinner og barn i det moderne Europa. Hun er særlig opptatt av sårbarhet, omsorg, barneforlatelse, institusjonelt ansvar, ulikhet og de sosiale konsekvensene av vold og marginalisering. Hennes undervisnings- og forskningsinteresser omfatter også historiske studier av krig, vold, traumer, kjønn og samfunn. Hun har bred undervisningserfaring fra NTNU, blant annet innen moderne historie, historisk teori og metode, europeisk politikk og samfunn, folkemordstudier, samt emner om krig, kjønn og kultur. I undervisningen legger hun vekt på kritisk historisk tenkning, kildeanalyse og sammenhengen mellom fortidens samfunn og dagens spørsmål om ulikhet, medborgerskap og sosialt ansvar.
