Faglig innhold
This course is primarily structured around the planning, promotion, and execution of a music festival, while also deepening students’ understanding of the infrastructure for artistic outreach. The course emphasizes expanding the entrepreneurial and communicative toolbox of musicians, strengthening their artistic practice, and fostering collaboration and teamwork.
Læringsutbytte
Knowledge
Upon completion of the course, the candidate:
- Demonstrates insight into their own artistic expression and its relationship to the music industry, cultural infrastructures, and diverse audiences.
- Possesses knowledge of event production and promotion, including concerts and festivals.
- Has a general overview of relevant Norwegian funding schemes and grants, including application deadlines, and the knowledge needed to identify relevant funding options worldwide.
- Understands the roles and responsibilities of key actors in the music business, such as festival directors, record labels, PR agents, managers, and booking agencies.
- Has foundational knowledge of budgeting and accounting in relation to artistic events.
- Is able to apply acquired knowledge to new areas within the academic field.
Skills
The candidate is able to:
- Present their artistic projects independently in oral, written, and/or visual formats.
- Organize and manage large-scale artistic events involving collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Apply both theoretical and practical knowledge of communication tools to effectively promote and disseminate artistic work.
General Competence
The candidate:
- Demonstrates strong abilities and experience in teamwork and collaboration.
- Is able to critically reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses in interpersonal and professional contexts.
- Can engage in critical reflection on their own field of study.
- Possesses knowledge of entrepreneurship and project management, and can apply this knowledge to cultural projects.
- Is capable of transferring knowledge and skills to new contexts in order to complete advanced assignments and projects.
- Can contribute to innovation processes and the development of new ideas.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
- Lectures and seminar discussions.
- Practical group work involving the organization or co-organization of a cultural event. A written project paper on this work is submitted before the oral examination.
- Attendance is compulsory, with a minimum requirement of 80%.

The mandatory project paper must be submitted in accordance with specified requirements regarding form and content, with a length of 3,000-3,500 words.
