Faglig innhold
The course focuses on research with and about children in Childhood Studies. It has an emphasis on qualitative research, covering approaches such as ethnography, interviews, participatory methods and child-led research. It addresses ethical challenges and power dynamics between children and adults, as well as questions about which methods are appropriate when children are involved as participants in research. The need for critical reflection regarding the purpose of a study and the theoretical and methodological choices that arise in a research process is emphasised. The course also explores connections between views about children and childhood and the choices researchers make throughout the research process.

Total lecture hours: approximately 20 hours.
Students in BARN2202 attend the same lectures as master’s students in BARN3202 Methodology in Childhood Studies.

Mandatory attendance in lectures (80 %)
Examination arrangement: Oral exam with presentation. The candidate can speak English or Noregian in the oral exam. More information about examination arrangements will be announced on Blackboard.

It is recommended to complete BARN2003 Introduction to Childhood Studies before or alongside this course.
Forkunnskapskrav
Admittance to the course requires a minimum of 60 SP in social sciences or equivalent.
Kursmateriell
The required course reading material is approximately 500 pages. Information will be given at the beginning of the semester.
