The title of this village is on purpose kept very open. It contains creativity which is a wildly underestimated and underused approach in the university setting. Additionally it covers the aspects of environmental problems which can be devastating and global. Thirdly, it addresses the question how those problems can be best communicated and spread. Thereby, it brings together topics and issues from different fields in an innovative way.

The main goal and hope is to create an understanding of what environmental challenges we are facing globally and motivate everyone to contribute their share to a sustainable future for all.

The dominating form of communicating environmental problems is by stating facts and shocking numbers. This purely informative way of communication often leaves people with a feeling of helplessness or even causes denial. Researchers are therefore following up on alternative modes of communication, which create a more emotional and personal connection to climate change and other environmental issues. More and more scientists agree that those issues are best tackled in a transdisciplinary setting like Experts in Team.

Relevant competency

If you want to know more about environmental issues, but never had the time to read up or look closer into a topic – feel welcome in this course. Also, if you know already a lot, but always felt like you wanted to do something and take things into your hands – come and we will get started. What you will need is basically enthusiasm, an open mind and the will to make a change.

About the village

The focus of this village will be on creative interaction, community building and positive, possibly artistic means of building a resilient society and giving people back a feeling of self-efficacy. You will need to be daring and willing to bring in the best knowledge from your field, but also overcome the boundaries on thinking in disciplines.
Method
  • Discovering the width and depth of diverse local and global environmental challenges -  building a knowledge base, collecting information
  • Using Improvisational Theater as a method to tap on the sources of creativity and positivity in every one of us
  • Defining which single environmental issue shall be tackled in the group
  • Develop a creative way of making aware of the issue and mobilizing action  those ways can range from sculptures, to flashmobs, peaceful acts of civil disobedience or a collaboration with “Framtiden i våre hender” or Kunsthall Trondheim, everything is open and possible

External Partner

This intensive village cooperates with Framtiden i våre hender, Norway’s largest green NGO, which works for a fair distribution of world’s resources. They are committed to the global environment and a globally fair distribution of wealth. Fivh does information and awareness raising through advocacy and debates in schools, political assemblies, social media, tv, radio and newspapers. The organization has three main focus points: Consumption, Fair distribution and Business ethics.

Framtiden i våre hender can provide a platform for events/environmental communication that we design in the Experts in Team workshop to be happening.

Another new partner this year is Carl Martin Faurby, the Programme Curator of Trondheim Kunsthall. He will be the link to the art scene and creative spaces in Trondheim and give us an insight into how artists think and how that shapes their practice.
