As a PHD candidate of the FACET group at NTNU, my work is focused on the development of sustainable battery materials. Silica has emerged as a promising anode material that could potentially offer high charge capacity in combination with long cycle life. Frustules from microalgae offers an exciting source of naturally nanostructured silica that is both green and sustainable. My work is therefore focused on developing high-performing anodes based on these silica frustules obtained from microalgae.
The performance of frustules as battery anodes are first and foremost evaluated electrochemically. However, to fully understand the underlying mechanism within the anode, other material characterization methods like: FIB-SEM, XRD, XPS and TEM are utilized as well.
