Marianne Sandvold Beckwith
Om
Jeg er utdannet sivilingeniør fra NTNU, og har interessert meg spesielt for mikroskopi og karakteriseringsmetoder for biologiske applikasjoner helt siden studietiden. Biologien er fantastisk, og med en god forståelse av fysikken bak observasjonsmetodene er det uendelig mye nytt å lære.
Jeg tok doktorgrad på tuberkuloseinfeksjon ved senter for molekylær inflammasjonsforskning, der vi ved hjelp av avanserte mikroskopimetoder oppdaget hvordan tuberkulosebakterier kan drepe sine vertsceller ved å lage hull i plasmamembranen, som også gir en inflammatorisk respons. Mikroskopimetodene vi utviklet ble nyttige i mitt videre arbeid som posdoc ved European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) i Heidelberg, der jeg jobbet med å forstå hvordan immunceller migrerer så raskt rundt i kroppen. Vi fant ut at kurvatursensitive proteiner i cellene hjelper dem med å navigere rundt hindringer.
Gjennom mitt arbeid som PhD og postdoktor har jeg fått innblikk i en rekke prosjekter innen forskjellige fagfelt, fra molekylærbiologi og biofysikk til mikroskopi og metodeutvikling. Jeg har sett hvor muliggjørende mikroskopimetoder kan være, og brenner for å videreformidle kunnskapen til det beste for våre forskningsmiljø på NTNU.
