Understanding design-based learning context and the associated emotional experience
Based on a three-month field study, this paper further proposes an Activity-and-Affect model of DBL. This model provides a fine-grained description of DBL activity as continuous along three dimensions: task, task strategy, and collaboration strategy.
Children’s Emotions in Design-Based Learning: a Systematic Review
This article presents a systematic survey of literature published in the last 20 years (searching from 1998 to 2019) and indexed in the Scopus, ERIC, and PsycINFO databases which contribute to our understanding of children’s emotions in DBL.
EmoForm: capturing children's emotions during design based learning
This paper presents EmoForm, a lesson based retrospective self-report tool for
capturing children’s emotion changes over time during Design-Based Learning (DBL).
Social sharing of task-related emotions in Design-Based Learning: Challenges and opportunities
We report two intervention studies conducted in 2020 during the Covid-19 epidemic, which explored different ways of sharing task-related emotions with peers and teachers, and evaluated the impact upon a total of 28 students’ (aged 13-16) DBL experiences.
Understanding learning and emotions in Design-Based Learning: what and why crucial to be considered
This paper contributes to: (a) understanding of students' perception and attitude of learning in DBL; (b) emotions' impact in DBL-related experience; and (c) implications for educators steering DBL activities considering students' feelings.
Emotion Awareness in Design-Based Learning
We argue that self-tracking will enable students to identify and control their emotions during the DBL process. The results of this study confirm that self-tracking with EmoForm enabled students' emotion awareness in DBL.
The Role of Children’s Emotions during Design-based Learning Activity - A Case Study at a Dutch High School
We report a pilot case study aimed at developing a deeper understanding of children’s emotional experience during DBL. In total 9 children (12-13 years old) are involved in this case study.
Understanding Design Preferences for Robots for Pain Management: A Co-Design Study
We present the robot prototypes constructed during the workshops and derive several preferences of the children. Additionally, we report methodological insights regarding the involvement of young children and their parents in the co-design process.
Design of Child-robot Interactions for Comfort and Distraction from Post-operative Pain and Distress
During this study, two usability tests were done. Each usability test involving children and their parents evaluated a different robot interaction. Results indicate that children initially have different responses to the robot.
