Faglig innhold
Arts-based research is a broad term denoting contributions to humanistic knowing, arts production and qualitative research. The course will map current traditions and specifically focus on practice-led/practice-based research by ways of lectures, cases, research workshops and participants own design thinking. The course will teach the epistemology of practice-led research, also related to the European discourse on artistic research and American performative ethnography/arts-based research. The course has two gatherings of each 3 days duration, separated by a period where the participant writes an essay which is relevant to the students emphasis on artistic inquiry as empirical activity. The reading list has two parts; a common and contemporary arts-based curriculum (250 p.) and a participant-selected and discipline-specific curriculum (250 p).
The course is developed and run in close relation with an ongoing project on building democracy through theatre, including a student from South - Africa. Even if theatre research is predominant, students from other disciplines are welcome to join a united platform for learning and development. Students are requested to participate actively, to prepare minor oral contributions from the reading list as well as writing an essay. The course is given in English.
Please note that if students plan to include this course in their coursework component, it must be preapproved by the head of the student's PhD-programme in cooperation with their supervisor.
