Faglig innhold

The course gives an advanced introduction to and specialised knowledge of different fields of ethnochoreology and dance anthropology. During the course, the students will be given focused insights into chosen theoretical and methodological approaches within these fields: these cover approaches emphasising dance structure and other ones emphasising cultural context. The course consists of discussing various research materials from a global context. A special attention will be given to Nordic research and projects as well as anthropological fieldwork.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

The entire or at least parts of the course will be given digitally, and it will consist of lectures, seminars, workshops, as well as a mandatory, small-scale fieldwork. This small-scale fieldwork done in groups will take place in Trondheim, in the late afternoon/evening during the intensive course. The purpose of the fieldwork is to try out/use selected methods (observation, interviews etc.) for collection and analysis of ethnographic data. The students will present their fieldwork during the intensive course week, and a short group report must be handed in. The students must have completed/passed the fieldwork task in order to turn in their exam task.

The students must have completed/passed the fieldwork task in order to turn in their exam task.

The exam task will be handed out and discussed/explained during the intensive teaching week. The student must use literature from the common pensum, as well as from his/her chosen individual pensum in order to substantiate his/her arguments and discussions.

Subject of the exam: A case or cases (researcher/s, objective/s, branch etc.) in dance anthropological/ethnochoreological research. The aim of the paper is to develop a well formulated perspective to his/her chosen subject. The exam task must include:
*A problem oriented approach
*A systematic and logical analysis of the relevant material
*A well-developed argumentation based on the analysis

Spesielle vilkår

Vurderingsmelding krever godkjent undervisningsmelding samme semester. Obligatorisk aktivitet fra tidligere semester kan godkjennes av instituttet.

Forkunnskapskrav

Requires admission to Nordic Master in Dance Studies (NO-MA-DS) or Erasmus Mundus Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage (Choreomundus).

Kursmateriell

The pensum will consists of a common and an individual part:

Common: Literature selected by the examiner and other teachers of the course. Ca 600 pages.

Individual: In addition to the common pensum, approximately 600 pages are chosen by the student, including original research contributions (monographs, articles etc.), dance anthropological/ethnochoreological source material as well as more general literature. The candidate presents the individual pensum to the examiner who will approve it.

A list of the common pensum will be announced to the students at the beginning of the semester.
