Faglig innhold
This is the second of four intensive modules, taught over a two-week period, bringing all students together. The module aims to introduce students to the understanding of dance as culturally constructed movement systems. The students will learn to work with dance as movement through the analysis of movement structures, including movement elements, composition, dynamics and relationship to music. In this way they will acquire practical skills to deal with dance not only as a general notion, but also as embodied movement, which is necessary for dealing with the practicalities of documentation, safeguarding and pedagogical endeavours.
Læringsutbytte
Students who successfully complete this module will have acquired:
- Elementary skills in motion capture techniques
- Elementary skills in Laban Movement Analysis
- Skills for recognising and describing movement structures, movement elements, composition, dynamics, and dance/music relationships
- Methodological and theoretical tools for conducting advanced dance analysis, - Skills for critically assessing the available material within the discipline.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
Lectures, seminars, workshops and supervised practical, methodological exercises. Minimum required participation/attendance in class for Choreomundus students: At least 70%.
Mer om vurdering
The motion capture coursework will be assessed by a practical test at the end of the intensive teaching period. Each student will be asked to perform and defend a simple motion capture task.
The student will also submit a 2500-word essay (about 8 pages). In the final grade the essay will count more.
Both parts must be passed the same semester. Individual parts are not graded, only an overall grade is provided. For the course to be passed, both exam parts have to be delivered on a level that is equivalent to passing grade. Resit of the exam must include both parts again.
