Warren Merkel completed his PhD in Foreign Language and ESL Education at the University of Iowa in 2018, where he developed interests in intercultural rhetoric, cross-cultural perceptions of plagiarism, the role of dialogic interactions in writing, and multicultural education. Other interests include concise writing and the use of short creative fiction and non-fiction in second language writing.
Prior to earning his degree at Iowa, he taught English at the junior high school and high school levels in Osaka, Japan, and at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, South Korea. He also studied in Germany and worked for several years for a translation company in New York City. He currently works as an associate professor of English in the Department of Teacher Education at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where he teaches and works with in-service EFL teachers.
