Om
My research focuses on structure-property relations at the atomic scale in ferroelectric oxides and the development of new electron microscopy techniques for characterizing them. The work is part of the ERC project ARONICS (led by Dennis Meier), which aims to develop ultra-small electronic components based on ferroelectric domain walls.
For local structure analysis, I am utilizing various high-end (electron) microscopy techniques and novel data processing methods. For example, to quantify structural variations at ferroelectric domain walls in our model system ErMnO3, I am exploring novel 4D-STEM techniques, combined with newly developed convolutional neural network approaches for analysis. This methodology leads to new opportunities in bringing visibility to otherwise hard-to-detect variations in polarization and local disorder.
In addition, I have profound hands-on experience in high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), as well as scanning probe microscopy techniques and subsequent data processing routines via Python.
