CV

Hello and welcome to my profile! If we do not already know each other, my name is Jonna and I hold a PhD position with the Industrial Ecology group.

My background is in Civil Engineering (B.Sc. from Chalmers University of Science and Technology in 2020) and Industrial Ecology (M.Sc. also from Chalmers in 2022), and in my PhD project I am now combining these two interest areas to try to understand how we can build more sustainable societies.

In particular, I am keen to address the vast use of finite resources surrounding us in the form of current and to-be-built infrastructure and buildings. Did you know that construction aggregates (sand, gravel, and crushed rock which we use, e.g., in asphalt and concrete) are the most extracted solid materials on earth, counted by mass? And that the current linear model of extraction, transport, use, and disposal of aggregates raises important concerns with respect to resource availability, emissions, ecosystem impacts, and land use conflicts? My research project focuses on the metabolic pathways of these construction geomaterials in Norway, where I work with modelling techniques such as Material Flow Analysis (MFA) to identify critical sustainability challenges and potential options to remedy them through policy support.

If this has sparked your interest, please do not hesitate to get in touch with collaboration ideas, questions, or just a joint appreciation of the Swedish fika!

Forskning

I started my PhD in August 2022 in Prof. Daniel B. Müller's group within the Industrial Ecology program. I am also part of LIFELINE-2050 - a multidisciplinary research team focusing on optimization of use of limited resources in the built environment. LIFELINE falls under the Resource Efficiency pillar of NTNU's Centre for Green Shift in the Built Environment (Green2050) which is a networking and collaboration arena for academia and industry aiming to accelerate a transition to carbon neutrality by 2050.

LIFELINE-2050

LIFELINE-2050 gathers a multidisciplinary team across six departments at NTNU's Faculty of Engineering aiming to optimize utilization of various types of limited resources in a synergetic way during the life cycle of built environments.
