Bakgrunn og aktiviteter

My postdoctoral research project is, simply put, about emotions and politics in public swimming pools in Trondheim and Stockholm (Sweden). Within a larger research project critically investigating the concept of 'cohesion' in urban communities in Scandinavia, the aim of my study is to "dive into" this curious spatiality of a pseudo-public room filled with material, moral, ideological, and hygienic contradictions. The typical public swimming pool is a place where 'difference' along many different intersectional lines have to come together and co-exist in a temporal-spatiality that has a lot of similarities with ideological analogies of 'society' and 'community' itself. These spaces are also places for constant potential friction, anxiety and conflict.

I will reuse the theories I applied in my dissertation project, which was about the Swedish society's reactions to the presence of begging EU citizens. There, I developed a psychoanalytic critique of ideology, deeply inspired by the works of Slavoj Žižek's appropriation of Lacan and Hegel. In this project, I will go more into depth on the relationship between this ontology and different theories on the phenomenology of the body.

My research interests include: psychoanalysis, historical and dialectical materialism, critical race studies, nationalism and national identity, political theory, ethics, moral geographies, urban geography, history of ideas, feminist and queer phenomenology, economic history, and so on.

I am also an affiliated researcher at the Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies on Racism (CEMFOR), Uppsala University.
