I ask that you fixate on any visible object in front of you and form a rough idea of what it would be like to lick it. Remarkably, you can do this with anything. Simply keep the idea of what licking it would be like in mind, and anything you look at will line up accordingly. This is a feat of introspection. My primary research interests concern the limits of introspection for settling questions about the metaphysics of perceptual experience: Is there a way things should introspectively be like if different explanations of perceptual character (naive realism; representationalism; adverbialism) are true? What can introspection tell us of the nature of perceptual experience? In my thesis, I investigate this and related questions by considering the relation between perceiving the world and being a person from the conception of personhood in Heidegger.
Beyond perception my research interests include metasemantics, personality, education, and the role of truth in our lives.
