Nano Energy Giga Impact

Nano Energy Giga Impact

As the worlds’ energy demand continues to increase, the development of more efficient and sustainable technologies for energy sectors is of crucial importance. Nanotechnology, a relatively new field of science and engineering, has shown its promise to hold the key for revolutionary solutions in energy industry. How the nanomaterials and nanotechnology advance the energy science and the latest development of nanomaterials and nanotechnology applications in energy systems will be identified and studied by the EiT groups.

Relevant competency

The groups in the village choose the theme by interest. Very basic knowledge about nanoscience and nanotechnology will help to understand the themes.

About the village

Nanotechnology is the control and restructuring of matter at dimensions of roughly 1 to 100 nanometers, where new phenomena enable new applications. Nanotechnologies provide the potential to enhance energy efficiency across all branches of industry and to economically leverage renewable energy production through new technological solutions and optimized production technologies. Nanotechnology innovations could impact each part of the value-added chain in the energy sector, including but not limited to energy sources, conversion, distribution, storage and usage. In the village, the groups will employ experimental and theoretical approaches, identify the key topics in nano energy, provide knowledge and deep understanding, and offer possible solutions to Norwegian industry and society.

The group will get supervision from professors, Postdoc and PhD researchers at NTNU Nanomechanical Lab or external mentors, depending on the topic identified. The possible topics can be one of the specific research questions in the following fields or discussed between the groups and supervisors.

  • Nanotechnology in batteries
  • Multifunctional nanocoatings for infrastructure
  • Nanogenerators
  • Self-powered nanodevices

Important information about EiT

Important information about EiT:

  • The focus on teamwork skills and group processes is the unique feature of Experts in Teamwork (EiT)
  • EiTs teaching methods depend on the contribution and presence of every participant throughout the semester. For this reason, attendance is compulsory on every village day.
  • In contrast to many courses, the first few days are especially important in EiT. During this period, get to know each other and discuss what each individual can contribute. You will also draw up the compulsory cooperation agreement and start preparing a shared research question.
  • For additional information about Experts in Teamwork, see page for students
