What already exists still has a future
Cities are in constant development, and as a result, the edges of the city must adapt to new urban premises.
In the Norwegian context, this often means densification with housing. This frequently leads to existing buildings being considered outdated and planned for demolition.
Nydalsveien 36–38 in Oslo stands at a turning point.
One future proposes demolition and new construction; the other asks whether what already exists still has a future.
Through this thesis, we challenge the justification for demolition and instead propose an alternative approach that allows the building to adapt to the evolving city.
