Om

About me: PhD candidate in Engineering Cybernetics with research focus on data-driven haptic feedback for arthoscopic surgical simulation. Primary research interests include haptics, biomechanics and biomechatronics. Affiliated with Cyber-Physicals Systems Lab biomechatronics group, Ålesund Biomechanics Lab and TrollLabs. Keen skier.

Short CV: I graduateed with a masters degree in Engineering Design and Materials from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at NTNU in 2016. My master's thesis was on rapid prototyping of injection molded plastic components. From 2016 to 2020, I worked as a mechanical design engineer on R&D projects at Prototech in Bergen, primarily with pipeline inspection tools for oil and gas, clamp on flowmeter technology, and high temperature fuel cell systems for space applications. From 2020 onwards I am pursuing a PhD degree in Engineering Cybernetics, with focus on surgical simulation.

Forskning

My research focus is on data-driven haptic feedback for arthroscopic surgical simulation. The motivation for this research is:

  1. There is a lack of surgical training for resident doctors. Surgical training simulators can help fill this gap. Data-driven haptic feedback can produce a richer simulation experience by adding the "sense of touch".
  2. Patient-specific surgical simulations can help surgeons prepare for a challenging surgery on your body. Data-driven haptic feedback can provide patient-specific interactions.

Research interests include:

  • Haptic feedback
  • Biomechanics
  • Biomechatronics
  • Digital twins
  • Cyber-Physical Systems Lab Biomechatronics Group
  • TrollLabs NTNU

Toward a Digital Twin for Arthroscopic Knee Surgery: A Systematic Review

In this paper, we present our vision of how arthroscopic surgical simulation can be expanded towards a "digital twin", by including patient-specific anatomy and patient specific haptic interactions.

Intraoperative Data-Based Haptic Feedback for Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy Punch Simulation

In this paper, we present a proof-of-concept prototype for combining sensor-based interaction data with finite element based haptic signal, using a Kalman filter algorithm.
