The first physical CIUS conference since the autumn of 2021 saw a record number of attendees with 110 people registered and 90 people attending in person. The rest followed proceedings digitally.

The programme reflected the entire range of topics within the CIUS consortium. Highlights included a presentation from new CIUS partner GE Women’s Health Ultrasound (GWHUS) presented by Martin Mienkina, Engineering Manager Advanced Technology; and presentations on our new topic of using ultrasound to improve fish health in fish farming.

As usual, the conference included the presentation of the CIUS innovation (DOFI) award. This time, the well deserving recipients were Svein-Erik Måsøy, Tore Grüner Bjåstad and Ole Marius Rindal for their work on a parameter for automatic evaluation of ultrasound image quality.

Sadly, the Fall Conference also saw the announcement of Director Asta Håberg stepping down. Industry Liaison Officer Svein-Erik Måsøy will take over as CIUS Director from January 2022.

In her farewell speech, Asta said: “It has been very interesting for me because I come from MRI and cognition. I have learnt a lot, I am very happy that Svein-Erik is taking over, because this is really his baby. I think now that I have had the early parts of the upbringing, he can take it to the teenage years and into adulthood, and then we will hopefully have a new baby, a new SFI maybe, in a couple of years.”

Svein-Erik followed up by urging anyone with ideas, projects, or thoughts for a new SFI to contact him. CIUS will run until April 2024.

No one attending the conference dinner will forget the timing of the government’s press conference announcing a new shut-down of Norway effective from just after the end of the conference!

The CIUS administration thank all speakers and participants for attending

We hope to see all of you (and more?) again at the Spring Conference 2022 to be held in Åsgårdstrand, Vestfold and Telemark on 3-4 May.
