Today we are pleased to announce that GE Healthcare Women’s Health Ultrasound will be partnering with the Centre for Innovative Ultrasound Solutions (CIUS) consortium. This partnership enables CIUS to expand and diversify into the women’s health arena.

GE Healthcare Women’s Health Ultrasound is a world market leader for ultrasound systems for women’s health applications, focusing on obstetrics and gynaecology. The company was founded as Kretztechnik in Austria in 1947 and acquired by GE Healthcare in 2001. The majority of the R&D activities still take place in Austria.

“Having developed a relationship with the CIUS research team over time, we saw first-hand their world-leading competency in ultrasound imaging technology. Our collaboration was focused on technical excellence and underpinned by deep trust between partners, which is essential for strong R&D cooperative efforts between Industry and Academic Centres,” says Martin Mienkina, Engineering Manager Advanced Technology, GE Healthcare Women’s Health Ultrasound.

“Having GE Healthcare’s Women’s Health Ultrasound as a member of the CIUS team is a dream realised, and provides us with the ability to extend our research into an important new patient group,” says Professor Asta Håberg, CIUS Director. “The joining of forces will provide considerable synergy as we work towards our goal of being a world-leading centre for research and innovation, developing next-generation ultrasound imaging tools to improve patient care.”

“Having GE Healthcare on board is a great boon for CIUS and diversifies our medical ultrasound R&D efforts toward women’s health imaging in addition to our historic focus on cardiovascular imaging. With this collaboration we can also leverage ideas and concepts from both imaging domains, and further raise our innovations. The onboarding of GE Healthcare’s Women’s Health Ultrasound team will further strengthen the close collaboration between NTNU, GE, and St. Olavs University Hospital in Trondheim, with the aim of bringing new innovations to the market for the benefit of patients, the healthcare system, and society as a whole,” adds CIUS Industry Liaison Svein-Erik Måsøy.
