Droplets and deep learning
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming a part of our everyday life in the form of self-driving cars or smart (digital) assistants. Here, we used artificial intelligence for detecting droplets, recorded with high-speed imaging, to speed up the entire analysis process.
Unwanted material on solid surfaces
Fouling is the accumulation of unwanted material on solid surfaces. It comes in many forms: corrosion, particulate fouling (dust), precipitation fouling (scaling) or biofouling, among others.
Is weight loss toxic to tiny top athletes?
The NTNU-led research project COAST IMPACT aims to assess the impact of pollution and disease on migratory shorebirds.
Research gives new business possibilities for students
One and half year ago, four young scholars from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology started Skarv Technologies AS, a company delivering software- and hardware solutions for marine autonomous robotic systems. Among the four founders, are Nansen Legacy postdoctoral fellow Petter Norgren and Nansen Legacy PhD student Tore Mo-Bjørkelund.
How to eliminate CO2 emissions with minimal effort
Not a day goes by without us being reminded of the changes in our climate. We need to reduce CO2 emissions. But where do we start?
Using technologies to “see” salmon behaviour and their living environment at commercial sea cages
Hi. My name is Kana. In summer 2020, I started my PhD at the Department of Biological Sciences Ålesund (IBA). Here I am working on projects to study the interaction between salmon group behaviour and various environmental factors at coastal sea cages.
A crude awakening: why should we care about contaminated copepods?
Who hasn’t seen the oil covered seabirds and big-eyed otters in the news after massive oil spills like Exxon Valdez and Deepwater Horizon? The images represent how oil production can impact the marine environment and are visually powerful.
Role of silicon carbide (SiC) in silicon/ferro silicon (Si/FeSi) process
The demand for high quality silicon is rapidly increasing in the solar cell industry and for production of photovoltaic applications. To meet this demand, the industrial production of silicon must be made more effective.
PhD life abroad in the time of Corona
How is it to be a PhD student at NTNU, working abroad during the corona situation? Carine Lausselet describes her new work days from home in Australia, month by month. Who am I? I am Carine Lausselet from Switzerland. I started my PhD in the…
PhD life in the time of Corona
How is it to be a PhD student at NTNU during the corona situation? Cristina Maria Iordan describes her new work days from home, since the university campus closed. Who am I? My name is Cristina Maria Iordan and I am originally from Bucharest, Romania,…
