Abstract

Translation Studies is highly relevant for a series of current societal challenges and debates in areas such as migration, the environment and generative AI. Research carried out by translation scholars is nevertheless almost completely absent in the Scandinavian public sphere. The aim of the article is to discuss why translations studies and translation scholars are underrepresented in current debates. It is suggested that Translation Studies has the potential to contribute substantially to effectuating societal change, and that this would require scholars to communicate knowledge and insights from the discipline, as well as results from their own studies, in more and broader contexts.
