The Code

The Code

he first version of the code was written in 2011 and at this time named vascular1DFlow. New versions developed and in the year 2013 vascular1DFlow v0.2 was released on GitHub. In the middle of 2014 a new version is ready to be launched. With the new version the simulation program got as well a new name: STARFiSh, which stands for STochastic ARterial Flow Simulations.

The program is written in Python 2.7. in a object oriented manner. With Python as development language the program is 100% open source and does not depend on third party programming software. To achieve low computational costs the scipy and numpy packages are applied for number crunching.

The newest version STARFiSh v0.3 includes:

  • vnc (vascular network creator): for a convenient set-up of arterial networks for simulation

  • the STARFiSh deterministic flow solver: calculating the arterial flow and pressure waves in the arterial networks based on the conservation equation for mass and momentum

  • 2D and 3D visualisation tools: for a convenient post processing and visualisation of the simulation result
