Abstract: Neutron stars are among the most exotic jewels in the sky. In this seminar, I will discuss the formation and evolution of neutron stars in binary systems, with a special focus on two questions: i) How fast can these compact objects spin? ii) How can we use neutron stars as fossil records of supernova explosions? The latter will be exemplified by the recent discovery of the most extremely eccentric double neutron star system known in the Milky Way.
