Subsea completions are frequently used in field developments. Today, there are more than 500 subsea wells in on the NCS. Prognosis suggests that about 80% of new wells on the NCS will be subsea wells. This course is an introduction to the main systems and components used in a subsea field development.

Innhold

The course addresses the following topics, in various degrees of depth and details:

  1. Field development: History of subsea, from single well tie-backs to standalone subsea developments
  2. Subsea production system architecture: Templates, configuration, clusters, tie-ins, installation, pipeline tie-ins
  3. Subsea production systems: X-mas tree configurations, connectors, installations, testing, operations, valves and actuators. Subsea processing systems.
  4. Subsea control systems: Overall configurations, top-side facilities, umbilcals, subsea control modules, valves and actuators, control valves, funtional and safety requirements.
  5. Production strategies and system flow calculations: Effects of number and placements of wells, flowline and pipeline size, field export strategies
  6. Flow assurance and flow management: Hydrate prevention and mitigation, erosion and corrosion, slugging, sand depositions, paraffin and asphaltene depositions
  7. SURF: Flowlines and risers, installation, commissioning and pigging
  8. Metering: Multi- and single-phase metering
  9. Subsea processing and boosting: Processing, and multiphase boosting and compression
  10. Marine environment: Introduction to the marine environment, waves, currents, wind, mud-line conditions and marine geo-technology
  11. Drilling and completion of subsea wells: Subsea well constructions, drilling process and systems, subsea drilling equipment (rig equipment, risers, BOP, pressure control, wellheads, casing and tubings.
  12. Well intervention systems and operations: Wire-line, coiled tubing, and jointed pipe.

The course can be part of NTNU's Master of Science in Oil and Gas Technology.
