Message from the Chair of the Board
As the chair of the board of CenSES and Pro-Rector for research at NTNU, I am pleased to see that CenSES
is a central part of NTNUs commitment within energy related research. CenSES is planned to play an im-
portant role in our new strategic Energy program where the ambition is to establish energy as a strategic
area for NTNU also in the next 10 years.
My impression is that CenSES have an equally important role for the other research partners, and I am
happy to see that CenSES have a strong position in Norway. This position is important to maintain and
develop further in the years to come.
It is also good to see that CenSES is moving from a start-up FME in 2011 to an established centre in 2012
with a lot of activity going on, both in terms of research as well as in different meeting places for re-
searchers and user partners. There is also a high number of publications and presentations coming from
the CenSES researchers, and I am looking forward seeing more of the results from the interdisciplinary
cooperation.

About CenSES
The objective of the national Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME) is to establish time-
limited research centres which conduct concentrated, focused and long-term research of high interna-
tional calibre in order to solve specific challenges in the field.
FME CenSES will develop fact based knowledge for strategic decisions, relevant both for government and
industry. The focus is knowledge for a national energy policy, for national and international climate policy
and for strategies of innovation and commercialization.
The CenSES consortium includes research groups from Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), Institute for
Research in Economics and Business Administration (SNF), Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), Nor-
wegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) , SINTEF, Sogn og Fjordane University College, Vest-
landsforsking and University of Oslo (UiO). CenSES research integrates the following disciplines: energy
systems and markets, industrial ecology, economics, political science, sociology, innovation studies and
science and technology studies.
