Learning outcome

A candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

  • K1: Have (including previously obtained) background knowledge in mathematics, statistics and ICT.
  • K2: Have in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge within communication technology in general and within digital infrastructure and cyber security more specifically
  • K3: Have advanced knowledge of paradigms, methods and tools within digital infrastructure and cyber security
  • K4: Have knowledge and understanding of other related subject areas that complement
  • K5: Have advanced knowledge of functionality, principles and architecture of today's and future network technologies, properties and characteristics of platforms, services and applications, modeling of distributed reactive systems, theory, methods and tools for performance and reliability evaluation; and/or of information security principles, challenges and methods related to handling of security-threatening events in the ICT context, and the mathematical foundation underlying security mechanisms e.g. cryptography, vulnerability assessment of information in networked systems, mechanisms and principles related to security, as well as specification, construction and management of security mechanisms in today's and future networked systems

Skills

  • F1: Are able to apply knowledge in a systematic way. The method may include analysis of a problem or design of a system, definition of manageable logical part of problems or systems, well-founded choice of models and methods, their use, and evaluation and validation of results achieved, for different areas such as investigation, research, problem solving as well as specification and implementation of systems
  • F2: Are able to plan and carry out an independent, limited research project under supervision and in line with the research ethical norms
  • F3: Are able to renew and adapt professionally, including following the development of knowledge in digital infrastructure and cyber security, to apply basic principles and methods to new technology generations, to read research articles within the program areas, and to develop their professional expertise on their own initiative.
  • F4: Are able to make specification, design, configuration, modeling, implementation and evaluation, and select networks and network solutions for services based on specified requirements for service quality, economy and social needs; and/or are able to perform vulnerability analysis of networked systems, i.e., identification of security threats, and detection and characterization of security vulnerabilities, to construct security mechanisms for communication protocols and systems, and to plan and conduct experiments related to network and cyber security.
