Faglig innhold
Nature of geographical data, spatial data structures, techniques for input and editing, analytical modeling, and ways of presenting of geographic data. Fundamental GIS operations such as buffer and overlay set together in geoprocessing models. During the semester students will carry out several exercises. Results from these exercises will influence the final grade for this course.
Læringsutbytte
The course aims to introduce students to the use of geographical information systems (GIS), how such systems represent our world, and how we can apply GIS for various applications within management and research. An emphasis is on vector based GIS. Students will become acquainted with how GIS can be used within both social scientific research and physical sciences research.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
16 hours lectures, 14 hours practical exercise work. Both of the exams must be must be handed in and graded to E or better. Please note that the course may be cancelled due to the teaching capacity at the Department of Geography if less than 5 students register for the course.
