Author Biographies

Leena Rouhiainen, Univesity of the Arts Helsinki

Leena Rouhiainen (Dr. of Arts in Dance) is Professor in Artistic Research at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. She is a dancer and choreographer whose research interests lie in somatics, performance, choreography, experimental writing, phenomenology and artistic research. She has published many articles in these areas. She has also co-edited several books, among others Dance Spaces: Practices of Movement (2012) with Susanne Ravn and Tanssiva tutkimus:tanssitutkimuksen menetelmiä ja lähestymistapoja (Dancing Research: Approaches to and methods in dance research) (2014) with Hanna Järvinen

Tone Pernille Østern, NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Tone Pernille Østern (Dr. of Arts in Dance) is Professor in Arts Education with a focus on Dance at NTNU
Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and Visiting Professor in Dance Education in Contemporary
Contexts at University of the Arts in Stockholm. She is active as Artist/ Researcher/Teacher, with research
interests including socially engaged arts, arts and dance education in contemporary times, bodily learning,
aesthetic approaches to learning, expanded choreography, and performative research. She actively publishes research articles, and extensively supervises master and PhD students.
