Tone Pernille Østern (Dr. of Arts in Dance) is Professor in Arts Education with a focus on Dance at NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and Visiting Professor in Contemporary Dance Education at University of the Arts in Stockholm. Her research interests include socially engaged arts, education in contemporary times, bodily learning, aesthetic approaches to learning, expanded choreography; and performative research.
Editorial Board
Alfdaniels Mabingo (PhD in Dance Studies) is Lecturer of Dance at the University of Auckland and Assistant Lecture of Dance at Makerere University. He has previously served as faculty in the Dance Education Program at New York University and Visiting Lecturer at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica. Mabingo’s research focuses on dance education, pedagogies of African dances, dance and decolonization, dance and postcolonialism and dance in intercultural contexts.
Ninnie Andersson (PhD in Education) is a Senior Lecturer in Arts Education with a focus on Dance Education at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She graduated in 2016 with her thesis about assessment in dance education in Upper Secondary Schools. In addition, her research interests include dance as communication for people over 65years and dance in Preschool Teacher Programme. Ninnie is coordinator for the five-year long dance teacher program at the University of Gothenburg, and she is also a dance teacher at a dance program in a Swedish Upper Secondary School.
Rose Martin (PhD, Dance Studies) is Associate Professor of Arts Education with a focus on multiculturalism, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Rose also holds supervisory, international advisor, or visiting professor roles at University of Auckland, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and Chengdu University. Her research interests include dance education, dance ethnography, dance in postcolonial contexts, and dance and politics.
Sofia Jusslin (Dr. of Education) is Postdoctoral Researcher in Education at Åbo Akademi University, Finland. In her doctoral thesis (2020), she collaborated with a dance artist and two teachers to develop teaching pedagogies that integrate creative dance in literacy education. Her research interests include post-philosophical perspectives on literacy and language education, dance integration and embodied learning in school and teacher education, as well as transdisciplinary approaches to dance focusing especially on combining dance with literacy, literature, and language.
International Advisory Board
Anna Duberg has a PhD in health sciences and is a registered physiotherapist in child and adolescent psychiatry. She is a research supervisor at University Healthcare Research Center, Örebro, Sweden. Her research interests include dance to reduce stress and functional abdominal pain, child and adolescent health and intervention studies in dance.
Kristine Høeg Karlsen holds a PhD in educational science from the University of Oslo in Norway, and is currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education at Østfold University College. Her research interests include cross-disciplinarily teaching, student active learning approaches, assessment and feedback, and aesthetic approaches to learning and dance pedagogy.
Leena Rouhiainen, with a Dr. of Arts in Dance, is Professor in Artistic Research at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. She is a dancer and choreographer whose research interests lie in somatics, performance, choreography, experimental writing, phenomenology and artistic research.
Lisa Wilson, BSc. BFA, MEd. PhD candidate is Senior lecturer in the Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her creative and research interest are located in the areas of decolonizing dance pedagogy and performance, dance education, dance teacher training and arts-based educational research.
Nicholas Rowe, Associate Professor in Dance Studies and Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries, University of Auckland. Nicholas holds a PhD from London Contemporary Dance School, University of Kent at Canterbury.His research focuses on community dance, dance and politics and leadership, tertiary dance education, and dance and digital technology.
Mariana Siljamäki (PhD) is senior lecturer, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She has been involved in the ArtsEqual research project led by University of the Arts Helsinki. Mariana´s research interests include fostering intercultural competence through dance and physical education, and embodied language learning through arts.
Maryam Bagheri Nesami is an independent choreographer, dance researcher, and undisciplined movement artist from Iran who currently is completing an artistic doctoral research in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland. Coming from the underground dance community in Tehran, Maryam’s research focus and interests regard inclusion, non-violent resistance, strategic negotiations and micro-politics.
Rasmus Ölme (Ph.D) is Professor in Dance and Choreography and responsible for artistic development at The Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen.
Rainy Demerson is a lecturer at the University of West Indies Cave Hill on Barbados. Her Ph.D. in Critical Dance Studies investigated the decolonial techniques of Black women in South African contemporary dance. As a dance artist invested in intersectional embodiments, she engages with queer and feminist activation within the African diaspora.
Ruohan Chen holds a M.A. focused Dance History from Minzu University of China. She is now a PhD candidate in the Dance Studies programme at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her current research interest centers on dance and politics in the context of the People’s Republic of China, dance ethnography, and cross-cultural dance education.
