Reducing the Environmental Impact of Norwegian Holiday Homes
Reducing the Environmental Impact of Norwegian Holiday Homes
Life Cycle Analysis of sustainable construction methods and usage patterns changes
Cabin construction is the biggest environmental threat in vulnerable areas, such as mountainous areas with rich biodiversity. The development of holiday homes increases their carbon footprint and related infrastructure.
Since 1987, Stølen (Oppdal) has been transformed from forest, pasture and agricultural land into a dense village of holiday homes. Cabins have doubled in size and become more luxurious, and with increased energy consumption, concerns about their environmental impact have been raised.
To change the current nature-harming practices, it is vital to apply more sustainable construction practices in the future. Additionally, lifestyle changes are necessary to ensure the preservation of nature.
