Geomatic Applied to Climate Risk
Project definition:
The project will initially focus on aggregating data sources from various origins on risks such as river flooding, landslide, storm flood, avalanche, etc currently available in different formats, as well as climate scenarios, topographic, cadastral, building layers as well as non-geographic data such as insurance claim data. Harmonisation of the various formats will be a key step in the establishment of the database. The candidate will have the opportunity to choose which technology to use, defend her/his choice to the rest of the team, and will be able to interact with senior GIS professionals to review their main decisions. This database should be built as a cloud-native solution and will need to be searchable through queries using elastic search, SQL or the like.
In a second stretch of the project, the candidate will have the opportunity to showcase how to write powerful queries extracting valuable information from the database to draw the risk profile of a property and contextualize this risk using analytics to integrate climate model scenarios to predict claim data.
Should this internship be a success, the prospect of further employment is a possible outcome.
