New student? Advice from the library

As a new student, the start of the semester can be quite overwhelming. There is a lot of information to digest, people to get to know and rooms to find. We give you a brief overview of what the Medicine and Health Library can help you with.

Practical advice

The library at campus Øya is located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Knowledge Center. We have large, beautiful rooms with good reading and work spaces, large book collections, group rooms with screens and whiteboards, desktops and printers. New of the year is KUBA – a space for learning about anatomy, including a large touchscreen for exploring the library’s online anatomy atlases (see demo videos in the link above).

To get started with borrowing books, you must have obtained your student ID card. Then you are automatically registered as a patron in the library. You can also use the card for printing at NTNU. Visit this helpful checklist for new students at Innsida for a step-by-step guide.

Do you have questions? Come and talk to us at the library desk on the 2nd floor. Our ordinary opening hours are 8:30 am – 8:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30 am – 6:00 pm on Fridays. This fall, we have extended our services and provide unstaffed library access from 7.00 – 8.30 every weekday. Remember to always check our opening hours online (in case of public holidays etc).

You can also contact us by calling (+47) 72 57 66 80 or by email: post@bmh.ntnu.no. If you have problems with internet access, your laptop, printing etc., you can contact Orakel Support Services. They have a counter on the third floor in the library and are open Monday to Friday 10.00 to 16.00.

Regardless of opening hours and student cards: the library’s digital resources can be used 24/7, including from home via the NTNU network. On Innsida you will find out how to connect to NTNU’s home network from home using VPN.

Find literature

Check the start pages on Oria for tips on searching and ordering, reserving and renewing loans.

The library offers a large number of professional databases and online resources, including anatomical atlases and e-books. You will find these resources on the Subject pages for medicine and health.

Ask us!

Finally, we encourage both old and new students to come to the library. Don’t be afraid to ask at the counter; our skilled staff will help you with (almost) everything. We offer a variety of courses and provide guidance on a wide range of topics.

We also recommend using our theme pages Literature Search and Academic Writing on Innsida. Here you will find helpful advice for all phases in the process of writing a paper or thesis.

Welcome to the library and best of luck with your studies!
