A new PubMed is available

A new PubMed interface will be introduced next year. It is now possible to test new PubMed. In this blog post we provide a short introduction to the most important changes in the new interface.

New PubMed has an improved interface that is responsive to use on mobile units like mobiles and tablets. The search engine is improved without affecting the way you search in PubMed. Most of the currently available functions in PubMed are also available in the new version.

The result list in new PubMed has a new design that provides better access to filters (limits), saving and importing, and other functions. It is important to note that the result list in new PubMed is sorted by relevance («Best match»). This is fine if you are looking for a few, relevant articles within your topic. However, we recommend that you change the sorting to “Most recent” (chronological sorting) for normal searching. This is especially important if you are doing systematic searching for a thesis or for research or clinical investigations where you need to have full control of your searching.

At the moment, most functions are available and working in new PubMed. These can be found in «Save», «Email», «…» and the cogwheel (see figure above). Making a personal area in PubMed (My NCBI) is also activated, but currently it is not possible to run saved searches or open collections in My NCBI in the new interface. If you need to use these functions, go to old PubMed. We expect all functions in My NCBI to be available in the new interface soon.

NB! Accessing new PubMed through the banner in old PubMed will not give you access to the NTNU-button (getting information about NTNU subscriptions and access). To get the “NTNU PubMed”, use our link to new PubMed on our subject page.
