Eksempler er en svamp, et stykke jord eller dreneringen rundt et hus. Porene kan for eksempel v\u00e6re fylt med en gass (for eksempel luft), med en v\u00e6ske (for eksempel vann), en kombinasjon av begge eller med to v\u00e6sker som ikke blander seg. Disse fluidene, eller fasene, kan st\u00e5 stille eller de kan str\u00f8mme igjennom det por\u00f8se mediet. Min ph.d.-avhandling studerer slike systemer, med fokus p\u00e5 situasjoner der fluidene enten st\u00e5r stille eller str\u00f8mmer med noenlunde jevne hastigheter.<\/p>\n<h2>Viktige kunnskaper for fremtiden<\/h2>\n<p>God forst\u00e5else av por\u00f8se medier er viktig p\u00e5 mange omr\u00e5der i natur og teknologi, for eksempel str\u00f8mning av grunnvann, lagring av fagnet karbondioksid, lagring av hydrogen og brenselceller for hydrogen.<\/p>\n<p>Metodene som brukes i avhandlingen er teoretiske og numeriske. Det vil si at matematiske modeller, formulert som ligninger, l\u00f8ses p\u00e5 en datamaskin. Flere nye metoder for \u00e5 l\u00f8se relevante ligninger er utviklet.<\/p>\n<h2>Temaer i min forskning<\/h2>\n<p>En problemstilling som belyses er: Hva slags konfigurasjon vil vann i en pore ha i likevekt, det vil si hvis poren f\u00e5r v\u00e6re i fred i lang tid? Vil det danne en dr\u00e5pe, en boble eller kanskje en film p\u00e5 poreveggen? Et resultat er at dette i stor grad avhenger av om poren kan utveksle gass og v\u00e6ske med omgivelsene sine eller ikke, og det avhenger av hvor stor poren er.<\/p>\n<p>Et annet tema er: N\u00e5r to faser str\u00f8mmer samtidig igjennom en bit av et por\u00f8st medium som best\u00e5r av mange porer, hva er da sammenhengen mellom st\u00f8rrelser som trykkfall, viskositet, porest\u00f8rrelse, overflatespenning og str\u00f8mningshastigheter? Et resultat er at en forenklet modell ser ut til \u00e5 fungere bra n\u00e5r fluidene str\u00f8mmer relativt raskt.
