Webinar on FAIR drone data
This week, I had the pleasure of giving a webinar on how to publish FAIR drone-based datasets in Svalbard, organized by SIOS and now available on YouTube. The webinar focused on transforming drone-derived data—such as digital elevation models (DEMs) or orthomosaic photos—into netCDF formats and incorporating robust metadata.
The concept of FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) is crucial for fostering transparency and collaboration in science. However, a significant gap remains in standardized methods for reporting drone-based data. This lack of uniformity often hinders the usability of valuable datasets for the broader research community.
My webinar addresses this gap by providing a clear, reproducible workflow for creating FAIR drone datasets. By embedding standardized metadata into netCDF files, we ensure that these datasets are not only easier to share but also more meaningful for long-term scientific use.
Check out the webinar to learn more about these efforts and join the conversation on improving drone data management!
