{"id":18057,"date":"2019-01-04T11:55:59","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T10:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.medisin.ntnu.no\/?p=18057"},"modified":"2021-08-19T15:11:40","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T13:11:40","slug":"tormod-njolstad-hired-as-innovation-manager-in-ultrasound-at-isb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ntnu.no\/blogger\/cius\/2019\/tormod-njolstad-hired-as-innovation-manager-in-ultrasound-at-isb\/","title":{"rendered":"Tormod Nj\u00f8lstad hired as Innovation Manager in Ultrasound at ISB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tormod Nj\u00f8lstad (59<\/strong>) was hired as <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntnu.edu\/innovation-resources\/knowledge-based-innovation\">Innovation Manager<\/a> <\/em>in the Ultrasound group at ISB in September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Tormod left his safe and permanent position as Associate Professor at Department of Electronic Systems at NTNU and <a href=\"https:\/\/geminiresearchnews.com\/notes\/talking-back-the-chalk\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/geminiresearchnews.com\/notes\/talking-back-the-chalk\/\"><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">established <\/span><\/u><em><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">New Index <\/span><\/u><\/em><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">in January 2003 in Trondheim<\/span><\/u><\/a>, founded on his patented idea from year 2000 of making <em>an interactive pen for projectors,<\/em> which could modernize education at universities and in schools. The brand new technology he and his colleagues developed, transformed data projectors to be <em>interactive data projectors that<\/em> could completely replace the popular, but expensive interactive whiteboards.<\/p>\n<p><em>New Index\u2019 scalable and instant e-whiteboard<\/em> was selected by the European Commission as one of the winners of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_IP-04-1114_en.htm?locale=en\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_IP-04-1114_en.htm?locale=en\"><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">the European Information Society Technologies (IST) Prize 2004<\/span><\/u><\/a>,<\/em><em> Europe\u2019s most distinguished award for groundbreaking IST products<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Further reading: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tu.no\/artikler\/pris-til-pekeverktoy\/326684\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.tu.no\/artikler\/pris-til-pekeverktoy\/326684\"><strong><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">Pris til pekeverkt\u00f8y (norwegian\/TU.no)<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During several years, Tormod and his colleagues <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrk.no\/trondelag\/vil-danke-ut-tavle-og-kritt-1.2244982\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.nrk.no\/trondelag\/vil-danke-ut-tavle-og-kritt-1.2244982\"><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">demonstrated <\/span><\/u><em><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">New Index\u2019<\/span><\/u><\/em><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\"> progress in business-to-business trade shows in US and Europe<\/span><\/u><\/a>, invited potential partners to Trondheim, and were invited to demonstrate the <em>New Index\u2019<\/em> technology in their head quarters in US, UK, and of course: in Japan! Tormod is no more sure about on how many trips to Japan he made over the years.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>A dream comes true<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2011 his<em> dream came true<\/em>: The largest data projector manufacturer in the world, <em>EPSON<\/em> in Japan, decided to include and integrate the <em>New Index\u2019<\/em> technology into their product roadmap, realizing Tormod\u2019s patented idea from 2000 of an interactive projector. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrk.no\/trondelag\/_vill-ide_-solgt-for-130-mill-1.7773953\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.nrk.no\/trondelag\/_vill-ide_-solgt-for-130-mill-1.7773953\"><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">EPSON acquired <\/span><\/u><em><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">New Index<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/a> and the operation continued in Trondheim for seven years under the new company name <em>EPSON Norway Research and Development AS<\/em>. Already 6 month after the acquisition, the first interactive projector model was launched in the market by the joint work of the engineers in the Trondheim-based subsidiary of EPSON and the EPSON\u2019s engineers in Japan. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/epson.com\/For-Work\/Projectors\/Interactive\/c\/w340\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/epson.com\/For-Work\/Projectors\/Interactive\/c\/w340\"><u><span style=\"color: #ac7762\">Today (2018) there are nine different interactive EPSON projector models <\/span><\/u><\/a>in sale with interactive technologies developed by Tormod and his colleagues in Trondheim, with a world marked share of about 70%.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Next goal: Innovation of new ultrasound methods, technologies and products for a better world<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tormod has gained a lot of experience from this long journey from an idea to world-wide distributed products. Now he is ready to learn more about ultrasound.
